Meet Marty and Alice Hazell
Matrix Group WA is a residential renovation and building repair business based in Kwinana, Western Australia. We alter existing homes and renovate kitchens, bathrooms, laundries and other living spaces.
Marty and Alice established the business with a focus on quality work, experienced project management and a dependable trade base. Insurance repair work remains an important part of the business, including services for insurance builders.
For homeowners, that means one local builder organising the trades and details. For insurance builders, it means a team that understands scopes, repair targets and regular reporting.

From cabinetmaking and shopfitting to residential repairs and site supervision, Marty’s experience shapes the way we plan and manage your work.
- Sydney, from age 15
A practical start in construction
Marty began working with tradespeople from his soccer team during his school years in Sydney. One ran a carpentry crew building house frames; another specialised in commercial shopfitting. He enjoyed working with tools, being active and solving practical problems.
After completing his Higher School Certificate, he undertook an apprenticeship in offsite construction and shopfitting, with a focus on cabinetmaking.

Carpentry and residential property repairs
A call from the carpenter he had worked with in Sydney brought Marty to Perth. He developed his skills in fix-out carpentry and carried out property repairs for the Department of Housing.
While contracting in Perth, he met Alice, who worked in the office of the company he was contracting to.
- Coffs Harbour
Moving into supervision and management
Five years later, Marty and Alice took a working holiday to Coffs Harbour on the NSW Mid North Coast. Marty became a supervisor for the lead contractor on the Land and Housing Contract (LAHC), continuing his Department of Housing work in a supervisory and management role.
- 2019 to 2020
Returning to Perth to settle down
Marty and Alice married in late 2019 and returned to Perth in January 2020. They planned to start a renovation business, an idea they had discussed while living in Coffs Harbour.
The arrival of COVID and the news of their baby boy led them to put the plans on hold. Marty took a role as a site supervisor and estimator for an insurance repair panel builder.
- April 2024
Starting Matrix Group WA
Marty left the panel-builder role on good terms in April 2024 and continued working with his former employer as a contractor. With their experience and plans in place, Marty and Alice began their home alteration and renovation business.

Clear project management and communication
We plan each job around its scope, trades and material requirements, with attention to scheduling, workmanship and safety. We keep you informed as the project progresses.
Our insurance repair background includes working to panel-builder performance measures such as claim lifetimes under 90 days, repair costs, make-safe costs, customer satisfaction and regular insurer updates. These are targets that guide project management rather than a promise about every claim.
We understand that panel builders work within insurer processes and the General Insurance Code of Practice. Our role is to provide the building work, coordination and reporting needed for the agreed repair scope.
The current business has grown through repeat work and referrals. We aim to make each renovation and repair a well-organised project, with qualified trades and a local builder you can contact directly.
